She has to shove her insecurities and the fear of dropping a few rungs on the social ladder aside to prove to Zak who she really is and who she wants to be… if she can figure it out herself.
Ich habe dieses Buch vor kurzem kostenlos bekommen und dachte es wäre perfekt als leichte Sommerlektüre und um mein Hirn nach den letzten schweren Büchern zu leeren. Es scheinte eine relativ lustige, wenn auch nicht so tolle Geschichte zu sein. Mit einem Nerd und einer Barbie. Leichte Hirnnahrung sozusagen, keine hohen Anforderungen.
Es hat sich als ganz anders herausgestellt.

Zoe war in Zeiten der "middle school" ein totaler Nerd, Geek Zoe genannt. Sie wurde geärgert, bloßgestellt und musste viel üble Nachrede ertragen. Sie hielt es einfach nicht mehr aus, also war die "high school" ihr Ticket um das zu ändern. Sie hat sich verändert und Popular Zoe war geboren. Ihr Image ist einfach. Sie lässt sich auf irgendwelche Jungs ein, lässt sie nach ein paar Wochen wieder fallen, nachdem jeder denkt sie hätte Sex mit ihnen gehabt. Den Rest haben dan Gerüchte erledigt. Jeder wollte so sein wie Zoe - außer Zoe selbst. Aber ihre Geek Seite soll versteckt bleiben, sie ist einfach nicht cool. Ihre Veränderung hat dazu geführt, dass sie ihren besten Freund und Nachbarn Zak verloren hat. Er ist ein typischer Nerd, sitzt am D&D Tisch, trägt Geek Shirts in der Schule und lässt sich grob gesagt am A* lecken was die Gerüchte in der Schule angeht.
Dieses Buch hat mich oftmals sehr traurig gemacht, dennoch ab und zu auch ein Lächeln auf mein Gesicht gezaubert. Was mich aber so traurig gemacht hat, ist die Tatsache, dass Zoe ihre echte Persönlichkeit verstecken musste, um in der Öffentlichkeit anerkannt zu werden. Sie wurde geärgert für das was sie war. Und ich bin mir sehr sehr sicher, dass es viele Leute gibt, die das gleiche oder ähnliche Probleme haben. Zoe (man lese "Die Menschen) muss sich durch ihr tägliches Leben kämpfen nur weil die Gesellschaft manche Hobbies einfach nicht akzeptiert oder es erwartet wird, dass man halt reinpasst und mitläuft. (Ich kann mich gut erinnern, dass ich in jungen Jahren versucht habe zu verbergen, dass ich Mangas lese - omg - ich las Mangas! War halt einfach uncool unter den Tussen ;) Ich hab allerdings damit aufgehört, als ich älter wurde und gelesen wann und wo ich wollte =P)
Was mich allerdings wirklich unglaublich genervt hat, obwohl es teilweise verständlich war. Das Mädel war eine absolute Heulsuse. Bei jeder Möglichkeit bricht sie in Tränen aus. Wenn man das ganze Buch kennt und weiß, wie sie sich die ganze Zeit gefühlt hat, versteht man ja manche dieser Sturzbäche. Aber es war einfach zu viel.
I got this book for free recently and thought I'd give it a chance now, that I have a tiny mental overload from my last books. It seemed like it would be this kind of funny craptastic storyline, with a nerdy guy and a barbie basically. Easy brainfodder in other words, no high expectations on my side.
It turned out totally different.

Zoe was a total nerd, Geek Zoe that is, during middle school. She got bullied, humiliated and talked about for it a lot. And she couldn't take it anymore. So high school was her chance. She changed herself, Popular Zoe was born. Popular Zoes reputation is pretty simple. She hooks up with a boy, dumps him after a few weeks and supposedly had sex with him. Rumors did the rest. Everyone wanted to be Zoe - except for her it seems. But Geek Zoe may not be shown, because Geek Zoe isn't cool. Her changing made her lose her middle school best friend and neighbour Zak. Zak is this typical nerd, that sits at the D&D table, wears dorky shirts to school and simply doesn't care about the trashtalk.
There, both have their roles, both can be happy with their lifes one would think. But it is not that easy for Zoe who is head over into her neighbour.

This book made me sad sometimes, whereas at other times it made me smile. What made me so sad is the fact, that Zoe had to hide her real personality in public just to be accepted. She was bullied for who she was in middle school. And I am quite sure that there are many people out there, that have or had the same problem in our current time. Zoe (people) has to struggle through everyday life only because of the mainstream society not accepting certain hobbies or simply expecting you to "fit in" and go with the crowd. (I remember myself trying to keep a low profile in school, because - oh my god - I read Mangas! I stopped it when I turned older and just read my books, when i wanted to =P )
Something that really annoyed me, even though it was understandable: This girl was a major crybaby. At every given chance she burst out in tears. Knowing the whole book now and seeing how she felt about what happened, I do understand some of those outbursts. But it simply got too much.

Passt eigentlich gar nicht zu der Geschichte, lockt aber als Sommerbuch an, da es meiner Meinung nach etwas nach lustigem, wenig tiefgehenden Liebesroman aussieht.
